More pictures and ramblings…

So last night my mother confesses that she reads my blog. *gasp* I have a loyal reader and fan! YAY! That is great news for any blogger. It means that you’ve moved from doing it just because you can to doing it because your readers demand it. *giggle* I’m famous now. I know have at least 2 readers.

There are plenty of photo opportunities at mom’s house. So after I have taken the all important pictures of Fancy Nancy, I started taking pictures of other things.

Here is my mother:

Love you MOM!

Mom was busy working on something on her Long Arm Quilting machine. This isn’t a surprise so much as she does have a business, but she usually mentions when she has things to work on. I didn’t recall her mentioning anything. Well come to find out, she was “basting” together a quilt for her ward for the upcoming NAM and the Interfaith Hospitality Network Quilting Bee (in February). Essentially, she was basting the layers together and then will bind the edges so all the ladies have to do on the day of the Quilting Bee is tie it and turn it in. This is a great service project where hundreds of quilts (in all sizes) are turned over to an awesome charitable service in our area. The quilts then go to those families in need in the community.

I am always amazed at the size of this long-arm quilting machine, so I can’t resist taking its picture. Mom was saying that I was taking pictures of her “toy.” *grin* Yep, I was playing with my “toy” while taking pictures of her “toy.” Lots of toys! As we get older they just get bigger and more expensive.

More pictures for: January 12, 2009

The thing is HUGE! That is just the machine, the table spans the length of the entire room (almost). It is a cool looking device, I do have to give it that.

The quilt she was working on last night. She did not actually assemble this quilt top.

Now this isn’t actually a part of the machine…this is the clock that hangs on the wall in the room with the machine. I was standing under it taking pictures of the doll poncho and it kept ticking in my ear. The thing is LOUD! It was picture worthy due to its noise level.

A sticky situation! Mom said that the pin cushion was practically empty when she started removing the pins from the quilt to take it off the machine. That’s a lot of pins.

A picture of the back of the “head” of the machine. It is huge!

The thread routing on the side of the machine. This thing takes large spools of thread.

The bobbins and bobbin case for the machine. A little larger than your average sewing machine bobbin.

The bobbin compartment on the long arm quilting machine.

The needle on the machine. Precision devices.

It is all very interesting to me. I told mom I wanted to learn how to do it. I think it would be a lot of fun. I guess I should crack out my own sewing machine and get to work. Need a quilt top to use a long arm quilting machine.
