Finishing my first knitting project of the year has really left me on a high. I kid you not. I have been just so excited about it. If you just can’t get enough with a single project, you should see if two projects feeds your need. So that’s what I have done. I have started my second knitting project of 2009. I am knitting a little scarf to match the doll poncho I just finished. I actually started it last night. I haven’t had much time to work on it, so it slow going, but I think if I just had a few minutes to sit and work on it I’d be much further along.
And because I have to kill 2 birds with a single stone…here is…wait for it…are you sitting down?…are you ready?…here it comes…a…

There is no pattern for this, just alternating knitting and purling to make a checkered board pattern. It will be long enough for an 18″ doll.
…today’s ramblings…
I am truly grateful that the cub scout leader changed the time and location of cub scouts. The old schedule was just getting old. It wasn’t that it was a struggle so much as it was just obnoxious. I don’t understand why others don’t understand that there are some things that others do in a different order than they would. What am I talking about? Homework. You come home from school, you do your homework. Period. That is how I grew up. That is how Ben grew up. It makes perfect sense to me. Really, they don’t have that much homework in 3rd grade to begin with so it shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes plus their reading. Andrew was a smart cookie as he would have most of his homework done by the time he got off the school bus. This is not the case for Kyle. Of course, homework doesn’t take Kyle just 30 minutes. But the rule is the same. You get home, you do your homework and then you have the rest of the hours in the day to do what you want. Since cub scouts was at 4pm and he was only getting off the school bus at 3:30-3:45pm and it is a 5-10 minute drive to the location where the meetings were held…that would leave Kyle with literally only 5-25 minutes to get his homework done in. That’s some range! Often he would be late. It just didn’t happen many times and there was a point of no return – if he wasn’t done by a certain time, I just wouldn’t take him. I had another child to get to his boy scout meeting. Besides that is a consequence of not being able to get his work done and the fact that he can’t keep the F’s out of his Wednesday folder of graded work. So you can imagine my delight Sunday when I was told that cub scouts would be at 4:30pm at a different location. This location is closer to me! Oh yeah! It gives Kyle literally an entire 45min to an hour to get his homework done. A lot less stress. Today was much more peaceful and enjoyable!!! Of course it makes for a rush to get dinner in the boys and get back out the door for karate. The lining in the cloud is finally turning silver, but even better come Kyle’s birthday he’ll go to the next level and they meet on Wednesday nights at the church, so we’ll only have the hectic rush rush rush on Tuesday until the end of March. It is at least bearable.
I didn’t have to run Andrew to scouts tonight. He’s finished everything he needs to do and the only thing they will be doing between now and his birthday is stuff he’s already done. We’re going to take him to scouts tomorrow night with the group he’ll be in after his birthday anyway. No sense in redoing what he’s already done. It is a bit more of a drive as it will be at the church, but it shouldn’t be too bad.
Of course, changing his scout night leaves for an interesting problem – cello lessons. He has private cello lessons on Tuesday nights. Since we’ll be moving scouts to Wednesday, we will have to move karate from Wednesday to Tuesday night. Hence the problem with cello as it right during the time karate would be. The good news is that the junior high school is only a few blocks from the karate studio. We’ve talked with his instructor and unfortunately there isn’t a whole lot in the way of options. Really, it is Tuesday night or Friday evening. The boys have piano lessons on Friday evenings already. This is why I really needed him to have a 4pm slot because by the time I am picking him up from school would be about the time he’d be stepping off the school bus anyway. It just wasn’t meant to be. All the 4pm slots are full. 🙁 Anyway his instructor agreed that he needs a “consistent” teacher and we have arranged for him to go straight from karate on Tuesday night to cello lessons. That should be interesting to watch! I wonder how his teacher will react to that snazzy black belt the first time she sees it. So for the next 2 weeks we’re going to give it a whirl on Tuesday nights and see if it is going to work. If not we’ll either move his lessons to Friday evenings OR work on getting him a new instructor (yet again).
I finally made it to the grocery store this evening. I ran Andrew to karate for 2nd class then headed to Randall’s in spite of not having all my coupons for the things on my list. I decided I needed milk so I’d go with what I had and only get those things that I had the coupons for that were not items I was getting regardless of the coupons. I didn’t do too bad. I only spent about $50 at Randall’s tonight. I didn’t make it to Kroger. I just didn’t feel like it. I’ve had an upset stomach all day so evidently I ate something I shouldn’t have yesterday. I don’t know what. I just wasn’t feeling up to (1) finishing cutting coupons and (2) doing more than 1 trip through the line at one store. So that’s just what I did. A single transaction at Randall’s. I still managed to save 49%.
Tomorrow I still have my monster “to do” list to complete from Monday. I just had so much stuff on it. I knew I wouldn’t get all the way through it on Monday. I am realistic after all. I just didn’t think I’d spend so much time today looking for a document that is almost 9 years old that ultimately I did not find. I found something close to what we needed but it wasn’t the exact thing we needed/wanted. We’re hoping that what I did find will be sufficient for our needs. It isn’t anything major, just a butt covering kind of thing. But, alas, while I did manage to get a few things marked off the to-do list today, it wasn’t anywhere near what I had hoped. At least I made it to the grocery store. We were soon to be in crisis mode in the milk department.
Three of the things on my to-do list were actually put on hold on Monday, due to questions about copyright issues. I know not everyone is as educated about copyright issues as I have come to be – I try to read and learn as much as possible about it, it is important to me as a digital scrapbook kit designer and designer in general. It is a big deal, and I quite frankly don’t want the liability on us or the company if someone is violating the copyrights on photos they want to use on their website. Due to this, I halted what I was doing yesterday evening and sent off an email to our business partners about this very stuff. I am still waiting on their response on what I should do. I’ve got plenty of other things to work on while I am waiting. At least if I get these other things done quickly I can get right back to work on the things that got put on hold.
So tomorrow I’ll be busy. I think that there is a “mid-week activity” tomorrow with the ladies at church. I am thinking about going, so that leaves even less time to get things done. They are doing crocheting – learning how to do it. I already know how to do this, but it would still be nice to go. I thought I’d just take my knitting and go and sit and socialize at least. I could help out where needed. I’ll verify the time in the morning and see how things are going on “getting things done” and then hopefully sneak out to socialize for a little while.
For now, I think I am going to go knit before I head to bed…yes, it is LATE…
