As many of you know that Texas is dreadfully hot 95% of the year. Right now, it isn’t bad. It is a total pain in the butt sometimes during the winter because you switch CONSTANTLY between heater and air conditioning. The weather just can’t make up its mind.
I have to confess, we’ve lived in this house for over 7 years now. It has a fireplace. It has never been lit. I doubt it ever will. Why? Mostly because I am allergic to smoke so lighting a “smoke producer” in my house does not sound like very much fun. We do not have doors on our fireplace, so that makes it even less likely that I’d consider it. I don’t light candles either unless it is absolutely necessary. You’d be hard pressed to find them in my house. I suppose if we got desperate, we could light all the birthday candles.
That being said, however, it does not mean that I don’t like the look of a fire going in the fireplace. I do. I just don’t see the point if it is going to set off my allergies AND we simply don’t need it 95% of the year. Even then 50% of the winter months we don’t need the “heat” either. It made even less sense when we had little kids (but they are old enough to know better now).
So on my quest for the perfect solution to the “empty fireplace” problem, I think I have finally found the solution. Not that the fireplace is a problem for me. It is not. People just always wonder.
Anyway…a quick search reveals the:
Pleasant Hearth Electric Crackling Wood Log Set.
So there you have it, the perfect solution for EMPTY Texas fireplaces! It says it does not produce heat but it does look and sound like a real burning fire, even gives that romantic glow.
Yes, I have to confess that I would be interested in adding one to my fireplace. Of course…I am not sure how it plugs in. *laugh* We’ll take it one problem at a time.
That kills me that they actually have something like this. I can see a purpose for it, but it makes me laugh. Thanks for sharing.
