Accepting Imperfection

People say that sometimes it is easier to simply not try because perfection is impossible to reach. That is a very negative way to approach the teachings of “perfection.” Yet, many give up prematurely. So many fail to reach or even recognize their potential.

What is perfection?

If we look at the textbook definition of perfect, we might be overwhelmed. According to the online Oxford Dictionary, there are several widely accepted definitions of the word “perfect.”

perfect
(adjective)

1. having everything that is necessary; complete and without faults or weaknesses

2. completely correct; exact and accurate

3. the best of its kind

4. excellent; very good

5. exactly right for somebody/something

6. [only before noun] total; complete

It is no surprise that we have a continual tendency to strive for better.

If we look at the spiritual or religious definition of perfection, we might simply give up.

However, if we look at it from the perspective that this is not a perfect world and it was never intended to be in its current state, then we can also accept that we were never intended to be perfect in our current states either.
