Lance’s String Fling!

It is that time of year again. It is the Spring of one of the children’s 5th grade year. That means it is String Fling time – 25th Annual Klein ISD String Fling.

This year it was announced that the group on stage had over 350 students. This is only a quarter of the students? Lance plays in the Klein High School section of the program. This is the high school that our neighborhood technically feeds into. Andrew and Kyle attend(ed) Klein Oak High School because they were in the IB (International Baccalaureate) Programme and thus were transfer students to KOHS. We are zoned to KHS. The program has grown so much since Andrew was in it all those years ago. There were only 500-600 kids total in the program. They had to split the program up to the different high schools a couple of years ago because it was too large. I am very happy to see the program grow this much.

The students were getting ready for performance time. They had the cellos sitting in the chairs on stage ready to perform and the violins and violas sitting on the floor behind them as they would stand for the performance.
Lance is the kid in the middle of the picture at the back on the cello.
It was hard to get a good picture of him. I could not get his attention and many of these kids do not know him. They have not played together except for the short time that they have played together in rehearsal tonight. They have only played together in concert one time before in the fall.
Their performance tonight showed great improvement over their performance in the fall. They do amazing things with these kids in the few short months that they are in the 5th grade strings program.

Unfortunately, this picture is a little blurry but it is the best picture I have of the big group. It does not even have all the kids in it as I just could not get them all together at one time. You can get an idea of how big the group was, however.

I love the 5th grade strings program. I am grateful that we were here to see Lance through the program. Thank you Klein ISD for such a wonderful program. Thank you for having such a vested interest in the arts in the schools.
