Lance was very specific about what he wanted for his birthday – a pair of pajamas that were green and had pockets. This should be easy enough for his mother to fulfill, right?
There was only one problem…
Mom had already bought the fabric for a pair of “sleep pants” MONTHS before the request came in for a full pair of pajamas. Ooops! I could almost do the green part of it. I could even almost make up for the fact that they would not all be entirely green because they would have “frogs” on them and that comes in a close second to green. I was going to fall short on the “entire pair” part of the request, however. I set off to find something that would match the fabric I had bought months before. I was not too worried about the pocket request as that was just a matter of a pattern alteration or even a complete change of pattern. Nothing too complicated.
Alas, I struck out completely on finding flannel fabric that matched the fabric that I found months beforehand that was totally awesome and so cute then that I had to buy it for my frog loving child. I knew it would be perfect for him…one day…
The day had come…that these alien frogs would become something awesome for my sweet little Lance…and then he crushed my hopes of making that perfect gift by declaring he wanted something else. Of course, I also knew that my children are usually pretty easy to please even if they do not always get what they want – exactly. Close substitutes are just as good as long as the close substitute is way cooler.
So I set about making Lance his “sleep pants” in a non-green…cough…blue, flannel that was covered in totally cute alien frogs.
The result?
Fortunately, Lance had a green t-shirt that matched his new “pajamas” and he was as content as could be.
Combined with his new “snuggle blanket” he was a happy child. Of course he is wearing his snuggle blanket backwards in this picture – like a bath robe instead of an actual snuggle blanket.
