Lance’s Philmont Treat

We have spent a lot of time getting ready for Philmont. A lot of the attention has been on Andrew, Kyle, and Ben. Most of the money has been spent on them too. Today was a bit rush to get them packed, loaded, and out the door. Then we spent a couple of hours standing around in the church parking lot waiting for them to do final gear checks and waiting for the bus to show up.

I have to admit that I was tired…hungry…and tired.

I also have to say that I am very proud of Lance that he has been a real trooper through all of this. He has not complained much. Even when we have done long shopping trips for items that were not for him, he has not spent a lot of time complaining.

Today in the parking lot at the church, he did ask, “When do I get to go to Philmont?” Evidently, he thought this was pretty cool. Andrew took him up on the bus to have a quick look. It was a big Coach Limousine bus. Lance was seriously excited about the size of this bus and how cool it was. He was stoked about going to Philmont himself one day.

I guess I should tell him at some point that when he goes, he will get to take his daddy all by himself. It will be all about him and daddy then.

This evening, however, it was all about him (and mommy)….

We went to dinner at Fuddruckers and got a really good hamburger. He said, “this is the best hamburger ever!” I think that had something to do with the amount of pickles he had on it. I think he had more pickles on the burger than he did meat. What can I say? This kid loves pickles.

Then I asked him if he wanted to go get ice cream. What kid turns down ice cream? Not mine. Of course I did not drive all the way to the ice cream shop, but I thought he would enjoy going to get frozen yogurt just as much. I had a punch card for the yogurt shop and it was closer.

I do not think that he looks too disappointed that this is frozen yogurt instead of ice cream, do you?

He had never been to Yogurt Worx! before so he sampled a yogurt and decided that it was okay. I handed him the smallest cup/bowl they had and told him to leave room for toppings. That comment was mostly so that I could at least “hope” he would not over fill the bowl. These places can get really expensive as you pay by the weight.
I was just happy that the yogurt was all kosher and I was not going to suffer from my experience. I had never paid attention to it before. I had only been in a couple of times before. I had not gotten as strict about these things at that point. It has been a while since I had been in.
He decided on two flavors of yogurt – chocolate and cheesecake. He picked a variety of toppings – cookie dough balls, sprinkles, reeses pieces, gummy bears, and gummy worms. He actually stood there and picked out all the GREEN gummy bears. Do not be confused by the fact that he put gummy bears on his yogurt, he only put green ones on his yogurt. He also picked out the two works that had the most green on them. What can I say? The boy likes green.
Me? I stayed in the more tame selections. The yogurt might be kosher, the toppings? Those are still open for debate. I picked chocolate and cheesecake yogurts with chocolate and white chocolate chips and hot fudge.
Fortunately, it was not a bank breaker. It was probably a little more than what I would have spent if we had gone to Baskin Robbins, Cold Stone, Marble Slab, or Brusters but then again maybe not. They are not as they are not exactly cheap either. I suppose we could have gone to someplace like McDonalds for an ice cream cone, but that is just not as much fun. Lance really did deserve to be treated out to something fun after being such a good sport the past few weeks and months.
He was happy because he could not finish it all and he got to bring his home for later.
