Kyle proclaimed that he heard this really loud “thud” on the big front windows of the house. These are the big windows above our front door. Normally, these windows are not a big problem except when the sun is shining in and I am trying to get a good picture of the children that are standing in front of them. Light filled windows do not make for good back drops. These are the big windows that do not have window coverings of any kind so there is no way to dim the sun when it shines in those windows. We just deal with it.
Of course, Kyle had to go investigate the “big thud.”
Evidently, this “thud” was like no other thud he had ever heard before and it was of concern for him. He even stepped out the front door to check where the sound came from.
Like I said, Kyle was concerned…
He had every right be concerned.
He came back inside with his giggly concerned voice and declared that there was a problem and that I needed to come look…
So I go out and look…
I found a bird that had met his demise on our front walk. This bird had flown into our big windows, breaking his neck in the process from the looks of it. He then bounced off the window and landed less than 4 feet from our front door, right off the step in front of the door. It was here that he proceeded to bleed out on the walk/driveway.
Now, normally we have birds fly into our big windows on a regular basis. We have big windows all the way around the house. This is not a rare thing to happen. I have to say that this is probably the first fatality that we have had that was “dead on impact.”
It is quite sad actually.
A few hours later, the buzzards that fly around have not retrieved it so I guess it means that we will have to give it a proper trash can burial when we go to take the trash cans to the curb tonight. How very sad.
I love how you take a tragic story and make it funny.
