Cub Scout Day Camp – Day 4

Lance started the day at Cub Scout Day Camp off with a migraine today. I treated him with some Advil and hoped that it would get better. They stopped and got him a Coke on the way. Unfortunately, it did not last very long. He only made it about an hour into camp today when I received a text telling me that he was not feeling well and was ready to go home. I truly did not want to pick him up if I could help it, but honestly I did not feel like dealing with it either. He was probably not enjoying himself anymore.
By the time I got to the camp and saw him, he looked like he was going to throw up. I was truly grateful I got there when I did. I asked if he was going to make it home. He said, “I do not know.” My response, “At least you have a bucket.”

I am truly grateful for his leaders that looked out for him this week. I am grateful for a camp that tried. I am just sad that Lance could not stay and have fun like everyone else did. It is just what it is right now.

We stopped at Grandma’s house on the way home so it was not a complete waste. He decided he wanted cheese burgers for dinner tonight. He wanted me to buy them. I told him that we would make them.

This was the compromise…

Lance got to prove that he actually earned his Whittling Chip at camp. He got to cut the cheese using the big sharp knife.
Lance offered me the first slice of cheese he cut. He was a little upset that it was not perfectly straight. Oh if he only knew how “not straight” it will always be from here on out.

Lance learned that it is harder to cut the cheese thinner.

Lance worked hard to cut the perfect slice of cheese.
He had to cut enough cheese to go on both of our hamburgers. Since he also needed some to snack on, that required a bit more cheese. I think he did a fantastic job cutting the cheese with the big knife. He did not even cut himself at all once.
Constructing his hamburger, Lance decided it was important to have a smiley face made out of ketchup.
Then it was time for a big juicy hamburger patty. I was craving buffalo burgers since I saw the buffalo steaks at Whole Foods the other day. These were not buffalo burgers. These were, however, made from the ground beef that I picked up at Whole Foods.
Lance had to check out the new pickles. They were different. He was smelling them. They smelled funny. He picked them out. He picked out Bread and Butter Pickles. He has never had Bread and Butter Pickles before. This should be interesting.
Then he licked his pickles. Yes, this is my child. He really had to make sure that they were okay. They were different. He had concerns.

He had his hamburger constructed with pickles and extra cheese. Now it was time for a drink of chocolate milk. Since I had to stop and get hamburger buns and pickles, I splurged and got him a bottle of chocolate milk. Oh and we bought ice cream too. It was cheaper than going out to buy hamburgers.

Here is my hamburger. I like Bread and Butter Pickles. I did not smell or lick my pickles though. I just ate more of them out of the jar than Lance did. He had concerns.

Lance’s hamburger was almost too big for him to get in his mouth.

I asked him if he was going to be able to finish all of his hamburger. It was pretty big. He assured me that he would. He was starving!

I am not entirely sure how he managed to bite that hamburger but he did. He was happy because he got a cheese burger with pickles (and ice cream).
