This comes as a surprise?!.

So I saw the headline today, although it actually ran a few days ago, that they felt was newsworthy. To the bulk of the world, it probably is news breaking and earth shattering news, but to some of us it really comes as no surprise.

The headline(s) read:

“Non-Alcoholic Red Wine Trumps The Original For Blood Pressure Benefits, Study Suggests”

and another

“Study: Red Wine Is Healthier When It’s Non-Alcoholic (Sorry)”

After today’s refresher lesson at church in Relief Society on the Word of Wisdom, neither of these headlines are a shock, nor do their corresponding articles come as a surprise.

In Doctrine and Covenants 89:5-7 it warns us specifically about wine:

5 That inasmuch as any man drinketh wine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him.
6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, pure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make.
7 And, again, strong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.

I am grateful that as a non-alcohol drinker I do not have to worry about whether or not it will have any of the health benefits that are specified in the above articles, I know what benefits and blessings are granted by the Word of Wisdom if I will follow its teachings. Those are enough for me. I do not have to worry about the side effects of the alcohol or other strong drinks.
