I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions anymore. I gave up on those many years ago. I am not sure I ever saw the point – really.
The fact is that we get 3-4 weeks into the year and we’ve forgotten what we’ve set out to do for the rest of the year. Maybe some of us are good and keep it up for 3 months. Maybe others are willing to accept “modified” plans. Others of us just give up and face the fact that we are complete and utter failures are goal setting and actually accomplishing those goals. Of course, I am sure it is totally related to the fact that we declared “faulty” goals in the first place…so maybe I should resolve to get better at goal setting.
Instead, I have decided that I am just going to keep a running list. A running “to do” list so to speak. These are things that “in general” I want to:
• I want to do this year
• I want to learn this year
• I want to finish this year
• I want to start this year
Of course these are in no particular order. They can’t be. Well I suppose I can prioritize them as I get a better grasp on what things are more important to me. I must add that I started my list in October or something like that. I got a head start on it. Alas, I confess, it was a continuation of lists of 2008. Maybe over time, I’ll be brave enough to “reveal” what my list is for the year. Heck…maybe I’ll just let you all know when I’ve actually crossed something OFF the “to do” list. There, that’s it. I’ll cross them off and announce it to the world. Yep, that’s what will happen. You’ve been warned.
The fact there is just a lot of everything…I want to do a lot of things, I want to learn a lot, I have plenty to finish, and I’ve got a lot of stuff I’d like to start (proceeds the doing).
But I can’t just unjustly tease you here, so I’ll share a few things…
• This year I want to take a picture every day.
• This year I want to blog every day.
• This year I want to use my artistic ability more often.
• This year I want to be more organized.
• This year I want to finish many of the hobby projects I have started and pushed aside for other things.
• This year I want to stay on top of household duties, it might not be perfect, but I want to try harder. Baby steps.
We’ll see how it goes…
